Day of Our April Fool Premier
our Day 1 April Fool together is one I will never forget. We were married for about 5 months.
Our washer does not work unless I sat down to keep the lid down. Our fridge was an old miller Bob had tried to paint with spray paint. It turned out to be three different colors of aqua. It was horrible looking.
On 1 April 1964, we went shopping and Bob surprised me by saying that I could choose a new washing machine, dryer and refrigerator. While we were in debt, it was so exciting!
As the two left the store, hand in hand, Bob said he forgot to tell something the seller and returned to the store alone. When he returned to the car, he smiled and said: "April Fish!" and tore the contract.
He said he was just a joke because we could not afford to go into debt for devices.
Well, if not, I checked. Communication stopped. It was a very quiet home that night and the next morning.
When I got home from work the next day, the new washing machine, dryer and refrigerator were installed. Another big smile of Bob. The joke April Fool was a joke.
We used to laugh that day, but back when the joke happened, it was not funny. I was hurt. My confidence in Bob lessened. In addition, a pattern of my most respond to Bob's jokes was created in our marriage for years.
The things to remember about Humor Your Marriage
- Some jokes are just not funny.
- Some things can not be joked about.
- Some areas of our lives are not good for teasing.
- Some comments may really bad, although we joked.
So be careful when Day April Fool. Do not take pleasure in another, but be sensitive, too!
