just because the two of you are growing older does not mean you can not not celebrate birthdays together and have fun! Celebrate life's events as a birthday gift can be a private experience or celebration can include a larger gathering of friends and family. Anyway, make sure the celebration is the one that will please your spouse. expensive gifts are not necessary
Bob used to surprise me by taking me to a place he knew I loved him, but was not his type of place - the museum, visit a historic site, a ride in a certain area of our county where we had not been before. Or he would give me something that he knew touch my heart - a miniature rose garden with an angel bird bath in the memory of our three babies we lost, a coupon for the flowers he planted in spring for me, a cd with songs he knew what I wanted.
I am a firm believer in gifts that have meaning. Bob gave me a sewing machine on our first Christmas and ME was crushed. He did not give me gifts "useful" like this

- When making your plans for the birthday party, ask yourself what your spouse has to do.
