For a captain of a ship to perform a wedding at sea, it must also be a judge, a magistrate, a minister or officiant officially recognized as a notary public.
Japanese vessels allow captains to perform a wedding ceremony at sea, but only if the couple has a valid Japanese passport.
Thanks to the law of Bermuda, and because most of princess captains enabled Bermuda to perform weddings, captains aboard Princess Cruise of Golden Princess Star Princess and great Princess can perform weddings on the ship and at sea. Note that couples in Bermuda must be 21 and have a picture ID showing proof of age.

A romantic alternative is to have your wedding on the ship for it is moored in port. You must follow the requirements of the port for such a marriage. All cruise lines offer this option.
Many cruise lines will require that once the port, you'll need to leave the ship, swear before a judge that everything is correct with previous documents prepared, and then return to the ship for your ceremony .
