Single fathers

Information about single fathers is extremely difficult to find. The trend for decades has been to collect and report data for single mothers only. These data were used to allocate resources for single mothers traditionally had an income below their ex who traditionally got the kids on weekends and still held their full-time job.

The problem is compounded single dads are generally not defined in the same language as single mothers. Single mothers are usually understood as the custodial parent for a child or children living in the house - and not have a live-in partner. On the other hand, single dads are not included as a single parent since most single fathers have a live-in partner. Despite this, the number of single fathers increased nine times since the Census Bureau began keeping account in the last half century

A recent study by the Pew Research Center shows a surprising trend: . In 1960, there were less than 300,000 managed by single fathers. In 2011, this figure had increased to more than 2.5 million. This increase is more than twice the rate of single parent led homes that have quadrupled over the same period of growth :. 1.8 to 8.5 million

Single mothers still outnumber many single dads. And the portion of homes with minor children headed by single fathers continues to be minute. However, men match one hand the development of single households in America.

What is responsible for this increase? Some reasons include increasing the frequency of divorce and births outside marriage since 1960. During the same period, courts have been ter to grant custody to fathers. Growth is also a representation of fathers experience developing roles in general. Fathers today are probably where the women were there ten years. They also want a more distinctive bond with their children than their fathers were supposed to have. Fathers are going in the right direction -. And get the rest of society with them

Relocation as a single parent

What should you do if you want to move to a state with more single parents? When attempting to parents move to another state, problems can arise. There are some steps to help this issue.

First and foremost, retaining a lawyer who focuses on these types of cases is critical. Each of the fifty states and the District of Columbia have adopted the Implementation Act (UCCJEA) Uniform Jurisdiction and childcare. The USSJEA establishes standards for when a court can decide custody and when a court must accept an existing custody order from another state.

Generally, a state court could take a decision on the custody of a child if one of these is true: ..

  • state is the home state of the child
  • child has significant relationships with people in the state
  • the child is in the state and is in danger being abandoned, abused or neglected

As a custody decision can not be made in a state, any other state can not meet one of three tests listed. Once the first state issues a custody decision, another State may not take an "initial" decision or change the existing order. While most of the population affected by the UCCJEA are single moms, single dads should be aware that they must comply with the same regulations
