Because the names are very much a part of your identity and heritage, the decision to keep your birth name (maiden name) or not after marriage is a major problem.
It is not uncommon today for a woman to keep her maiden name professionally, and use her married name socially. Whether or not to change the name is one of the first decisions of a married couple needs to do.
Name Change options
There are many name change options for married couples today. We use the names Mary Jones and Pete Smith as examples

Keep both your birth names This name change option is a popular choice when you have established two professional identities. Some women who choose this option use the name of their husbands for social purposes. ( Pete Smith and Mary Jones )
two surnames Use Female You This name change option is not widely used as some couples have strong feelings about using the name of the woman. ( Pete and Mary Jones )
Wife Uses maiden name as a first name Along With husband's family name This name change option is growing in popularity. ( Mary Jones Smith and Pete Smith )
hyphenate both names This is another name change option that is gaining popularity, but it is fears that it could create confusion for some people and computers. ( Mary Jones-Smith and Pete Jones-Smith )
Both use the names of each other as a means names Since you are both maintaining your own surname, which is more of a symbolic gesture than practical. ( Pete Jones Smith and Mary Smith Jones )
Choose a new name Some couples use their surnames to create a new name ( Smiones ) or they choose a name quite different. ( Pete and Mary Carter )
