Two weeks after Colin suggested, he and Alma were married on August 25, 1962 at the First Congregational Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Rev. J. Clyde Perry performed the ceremony where they exchanged wedding bands of simple gold. Colin's friend Ronnie Brooks was the best man and the sister of Alma, Barbara, was maid of honor. Colin was a summer tan uniform for the ceremony and Alma wore a white wedding dress. Colin refers to their marriage as "My lucky day."
